Mission:  To provide the community with a good understanding of the history and people of the Southern Bays.
 
Aims:
  • to promote activities including quarterly meetings;

  • to produce a quarterly newsletter;

  • to secure the preservation of historical research in an archive;

  • to produce an annual magazine.

What do we collect?

Family histories, histories of organisations past and present, such as churches, schools, clubs in general ,sporting bodies, social groups.

 

What we do not collect

Artefacts: in other words, three-dimensional objects.

Archives:  Our archive is situated in the main block, Home of Compassion, off Murray Street, Island Bay. The archive is open each Friday from 10am -noon, 12.30pm to 3-30pm, with the exception of Easter week and public holidays, and from mid-December through to the end of January.

Researchers, visitors and volunteers to assist always welcome.
 
Socials:

We have a variety of speakers talking about the history and make up of the region at our regular meetings.


We meet on the third Monday of February, May, August and November
 

Other activities:
We arrange visits to other archives.
