Introducing the Wellington Southern Bays Historical Society Inc.

Following a meeting of a small group of local residents interested in establishing a historical society covering the three bays, a public meeting was held on Wednesday 13 August 2003 which attracted 32 supporters.
Those present confirmed their support for the Society, and an inaugural committee was elected to incorporate the Society.  Our first AGM was held in August, 2004, at which a committee of nine was elected.

We meet on the third Monday of February, May, August and November

Members from any suburb or any place in New Zealand and beyond are welcome.

CHATTERBOX

Do you know the history of the post and rail fence along Clyde Street?
It dates back to the Island Bay race course days. How much of it is the original fence no one knows, but the City Council has carefully maintained it throughout the years. That’s great – a living bit of history.
You will also be interested to know that Cliff House, 1 Milne Terrace is classified a Heritage building, (When?  I do not know, just happened on it)
