THE SOCIETY’S NEXT SOCIAL EVENING WILL BE HELD ON

  1. Nic Dryden who will speak on Coastal Sand Dunes

  2. Maggie Wassilieff who will speak on Ecosystems between Owhiro Bay and Red Rocks, and pre-European native vegetation of the Island Bay area.

 

 

SOCIAL MONDAY 16 NOVEMBER, 2009
 

Our speaker was Vivien Rickard, WCC Principal Heritage Advisor, who talked about “Heritage Places in the Southern Bays”. 

Some of our heritage properties are recorded, but not all of them and work will be required to complete the records. 

There are plans for a meeting/workshop to be held in the future.

 

SUBSCRIPTIONS 

We have had a good response to our request for members to pay their subscriptions but we do have some outstanding. Our financial position is still of concern and your help would be appreciated.

 

MAGAZINE 2009

 

Our 2009 magazine arrived too late to be available at our November Social meeting, but all financial members should have received their copy either hand delivered by a group of volunteers or by mail. All financial members receive a free copy and any other copies purchased by members will cost $15 each.
Copies sold to non-members will cost $20.

Archives

 

 

Our Archivist, Pat Hutchison, is present at our archive, situated in the Home of Compassion, each Friday from 10 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 3.30 pm with the exception of public holidays, and the period from mid-December to the end of January. Her contact number at the archive is 021 027 86 577, and at home her number is 389 1336.

Please ring Pat at home at least the day before if you plan to visit.
Research volunteers are always welcome. This year, we are planning to build up our photographic and information record of pioneers in the three bays, and Pat would be very pleased to receive a story, plus a picture if possible, either on loan or donated. If anyone can help please ring Pat on 389 1336.

SOCIAL EVENING

The Society is aware that from time to time members may become ill or suffer some other personal time of need and Barbara Hoskins (Phone 383-8847) has kindly agreed to send messages when appropriate.
